What's happening in week 30 of your pregnancy?

Your little one is increasing his red blood cell count. Make sure iron-rich food is present in your everyday meals to support red blood cell production in his bone marrow.

Your baby is practicing to take his first breath. Your baby is moving his diaphragm, mimicking the rhythmic movements of inhaling and exhaling.

Your baby weighs about 1.36 kg. He measures about 43 cm from head to toe.

How is your baby's brain developing?

Grooves and indentations continue to develop on your baby's brain. This allows his brain tissue to keep growing.

What pregnancy symptom might you experience this week?

You seem to have developed a new clumsiness this third trimester. It's due to your growing bump and the shift in your centre of gravity, as well as hormonal changes that loosen your joints. Protect your pregnancy health with these steps:

  1. Take notice of what is around you. Take special care when walking over wet or potentially slippery surfaces or take an alternative route.
  2. Wear low-heeled shoes with rubber soles so you are less likely to slip.
  3. Ask your partner, a friend or family member to help you with any difficult tasks, especially if it requires heavy lifting.

Mom's tip of the week

Your partner can also help you to massage your skin with moisturizing creams such as cocoa butter, to prevent your skin from drying, which is a common pregnancy symptom. It's an exercise in intimacy with your partner, too.
