What's happening this week?

The sperm and egg meet:

The strongest sperm travels up the fallopian tubes to fertilize the egg. You've conceived!

Your baby is a single cell:

After it is fertilized, the egg is called a zygote. This zygote contains chromosomes, which can determine your baby's physical characteristics and, to some extent, their personality.

Pregnancy symptoms and solutions: Fatigue

The symptom:

Fatigue is a common pregnancy symptom due to hormonal changes in your body.

The solution:

Drink plenty of water, eat well, exercise and try not to overexert yourself.

How you can help:

Make sure you get 35 milligrams of iron a day:

Without iron, you will feel weak and tired, especially when you're carrying a growing baby.

Eat 1 g/kg body weight + 23g of protein at this pregnancy stage:

Protein makes up 75 percent of your body tissue and will help to support your body through this period.

Mom's Tip of the Week: Include DHA and choline in your diet

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is a building block for your baby's brain and choline supports the healthy development of those brain cells. Take a prenatal supplement containing DHA, and stock your kitchen with eggs and spinach which contain choline.
